What do you need to Qualify?

Before you dive into the application process, it’s crucial to ensure you meet the eligibility criteria:

Investment Commitment: You must commit to investing a minimum of $200,000 CDN equity within Yellowknife’s corporate boundaries or $100,000 CDN equity outside of Yellowknife.

Ownership: You should own at least 33.3% of the business, unless your personal equity investment is at least $1,000,000 CDN.

Personal Net Worth: You must demonstrate a personal net worth of at least $500,000 CDN within Yellowknife’s corporate boundaries or $250,000 CDN outside of Yellowknife.

Experience and Education: Possess the necessary experience and education to implement your business plan successfully.

Financial Resources: Show sufficient financial resources to start and operate your business and support yourself and any dependents during the Business Performance Agreement’s duration.

Nominee Program Eligibility: Ensure you don’t have an active application with any other provincial or territorial nominee program or any other stream of the Nominee Program in the NWT, and you are not a Refugee Claimant.

Commitment: Be ready and willing to settle full-time in the NWT.

Application Process

If you meet the criteria mentioned above, here’s what you can expect during the application process:

Self-assessment: Start by assessing if you meet the minimum eligibility criteria.

Exploratory visit and interview: If you pass the self-assessment, plan a visit to the NWT for a face-to-face interview.

Pre-screening and invitation: After your visit, your business concept will be pre-screened, and interview results evaluated. Successful applicants will be invited to formally apply and submit a detailed business plan.

Application review: Your application will undergo a comprehensive review against the program’s eligibility criteria.

Business Performance Agreement: If your application is approved, you’ll enter into a two-year Business Performance Agreement with the Government of the NWT. This agreement outlines the obligations you must fulfill to receive a nomination certificate.

Developing your business: Once approved, you can proceed to establish and run your business. If successful, you’ll receive a nomination for Canadian Permanent Residency.

It’s important to note that the Department of Industry, Tourism, and Investment reserves the right to deny an application at any step if they determine the applicant is ineligible. Additionally, decisions on applications are final, with no appeal process.
